I wanted to practice human skulls. As ubiquitous as they are near Halloween and, of course, beneath our own skin, they’re surprisingly intricate to draw in a realistic style. It’s fairly simple to remember the divided nasal passages and deep eye sockets, but the arc of the cheekbone across the face is like the buttress of a cathedral, and the teeth seem too narrow unmasked beneath the flesh of the mouth.
